Hi, Slug! I haven't got around to reading the manga (yet) so I have a dumb question.

What was Sasara doing during those six (?) years after DH's break up? Other than being a member of MCD, of course. Did he and Roshou not see each other for six years and then Sasara shows up and is like "Dude, be my partner again!"? Or have they stayed in touch, just not as a duo anymore?

For someone who hasn't read the manga, you seem to know everything.

After DH breaks up, Sasara takes a break from work to move to Tokyo and find himself. But everywhere he looks, everything reminds Sasara of...him. (wistful sigh) "Everything" includes a strapping young gangster, a one Samatoki Aohitsugi, who Sasara quickly befriends and then just like...pesters? He tries to get Samatoki to join him in a comedy duo (called SasaSama, "coincidentally" also the name of their ship), which goes about as well as you would expect. Sasara gives that up quickly and, as far as I can tell, just spends a lot of time hanging out with him and, later, Ichirou and Kuukou. Plenty of smoking and playing cards and going out to eat. Presumably, Sasara starts working again in some capacity. This is probably where he began his YouTube career or whatever influencer shit he's on. After a Ramuda clone brainwashes him into hating Samatoki, Sasara goes back to Osaka and continues his career in TV as a solo comedian. He doesn't see Roshou again for...at least a couple of months...the timeline is frustratingly opaque as ever...until he meets Rei and discovers that Rei is scamming Roshou in what's definitely not a pyramid scheme. Ever the rational thinker, Sasara breaks into Roshou's house and says, pretty much word for word, "Dude, be my partner again!" (So you can get the money you need without Rei's definitely-not-a-pyramid scheme. Also because I missed you big time ah ha.) Roshou says no but eventually gets swindled into agreeing by a combination of Sasara and Rei's best efforts. Then the rest is history. "Slug, surely you're taking some liberties in the tone of this summary." I cannot stress enough that I most certainly am not.

I am immensely enjoying new people getting into HypMic (mostly on this hellsite fuck Twitter) but you poor babies. Oh my god. You have zero knowledge coming into contact with BAT and Dotsuhon. So here is, admittedly rather condensed, a lore drop and why BAT and DH are important:

Bad Ass Temple

Starting with Nagoya's fiercest, Bad Ass Temple represents courage, standing for what's right, and never backing down.

Their leader, Kuko Harai, is a Buddhist monk (in training), and despite his unconventional appearance and punk-like personality, he's devoted to his faith and friends. Before he was part of BAT, he made friends with Ichiro Yamada after an aggressive fist fight where they were evenly matched. They gained respect for each other and made a team called Naughty Busters. Kuko was eventually brainwashed into leaving Ichiro, after which he went back to school and got in trouble for fighting off bullies from a friend of his.

Jyushi Aimono is a visual kei vocalist for the band Argo Orchestra as well as chunni (like his seiyuu!). He had a deeply troubled past, his parents often ignoring him. Jyushi became extremely close to his grandmother, who made him a small toy pig he named Amanda. He took Amanda everywhere with him, even to school, but a former friend motivated by jealousy relentlessly bullied him and encouraged others to do the same. Eventually Jyushi's grandmother was killed as a result of their hazing, sending Jyushi into a massive spiral.

Hitoya Amaguni is a lawyer who's seemingly only motivated by money, however his true colors shine when he takes on bullying cases. His brother was bullied until it caused his death, and since then Hitoya has been hunting down the people who did it. He has an intense sympathy for Jyushi and Kuko, despite trying to appear as if he doesn't care. He took on Jyushi's case and landed his bullies in prison, as well as clearing Kuko of the charges put against him. Because of their connection, the three of them were able to form Bad Ass Temple under Kuko's guidance.

Dotsuitare Hompo

Dotsuitare Hompo, or Dotsuhon, is a team that always gets back up when they're knocked down, a team that keeps fighting to make their place even if the world is against them. They're fun and engaging, bringing the joys of Osaka to HypMic.

Sasara Nurude may not seem like a leader to the untrained eye, but digging deeper into the comedian's backstory reveals an odd intensity for someone who never stops smiling. Due to his parents' rocky marriage and messy divorce, young Sasara found comfort in comedy and making people laugh. That carried with him to college, where he met his then comedy partner, Rosho. The two took Japan by storm, but a nasty breakup shattered all of Sasara's dreams. He wasn't about to give up, going to Tokyo to get a new outlook, and meeting up with Samatoki Aohitsugi, who, at the time, reminded Sasara of Rosho. A second nasty breakup occurred when Sasara was brainwashed, and the comedian resurfaced later on as the leader of Dotsuhon.

Rosho Tsutsujimori both blends in and stands out. He suffers from intense gifted kid burnout from his parents pushing him in grade school, resulting in him gaining a violent streak that persists to this day. He entered comedy school and formed Dotsuitare Hompo with Sasara until his stage fright and mutual miscommunication broke them apart. Since then, Rosho found a career in not just being a teacher, but being someone who supports and nurtures young talent. Sasara returned to him to have him join the new Dotsuhon, though at first Rosho declined.

Rei is the lore holder here, being the man who developed the Hypnosis Mics and Ramuda Clones. His past is shrouded in mystery, but we know that he only works with the government because they are holding his wife hostage. He calls himself a conman, wickedly intelligent and crafty. He was able to get Dotsuhon together by scamming one of Rosho's students, provoking the teacher enough to get him and Sasara to admit they missed the other.

I tried to make this as basic as possible but feel free to ask about other tidbits, there's a LOT that goes on outside of the anime but it can be hard to find. Anyway I'm Emmet, your local lore keeper!

I stole this suitcase idea from someone who did it with Disney princes/princesses. I asked for ships on tiktok and did 6 to practice digital art. I love them all in their own way (except for Rosho, I dont like how I drew him...)

I want and draw the other ships I got too, now that I might (BIG MIGHT) have a better grasp on digital.

Hypmic with Pokemon is something that's got a good chunk of brian rot im my head. Do I know a lot about Pokemon? No. I went of vibes and story beats I made up!

Eevee: When Saburo was younger and still in the orphanage, one day he came across a small eevee. Most likely the runt of its litter due its size and unnatural fur color. Saburo snuck out night after night to take care of it. Then after the Stairway to Heaven incident, he was able to sneak out again to go to eevee but Ichiro and his then Kirlia followed him. The rest is history. (I thought eevee was a good pick since they seem to be like the potential Pokemon, Pokemon who can grow up to be anything. Why did I make it shiny?... Favoritism.)

Gengar: Year's after the Stairway to Heaven incident and only a month or two after Odd Jobs Yamada's official opening. There had been neighborhood talk of spooky things happening at night and nightmares becoming more frequent. The brother suspected a ghost type Pokemon was behind this and Ichiro with his now Gallade began to come up with a away to track it down. But after a few days or two with zero luck they began to doubt themselves. Saburo, wanting to prove himself and one up Jiro, went out late with Eevee to search or try and lure it out. He ended up at a park near a thicket of trees, he heard a snap of a twig and other ominous noises. Barely scared, he investigates and meets face to face with a Gengar. Eevee jumps to their feet to defend, but the Gangar startles and disappears into the shadows. After further investigation, Saburo and Eevee find a broken pokeball that looked like it was purposefully snapped in half. It takes a few more fleeting encounters and one lost walk (Saburo ended up in an abandoned building trying to find Gengar) later for Gengar to get close with the pair. Saburo began to bring food preferred by ghost type Pokemon and just sit with Gengar on days where he was frustrated or wanted some quiet. Soon enough the pair of Saburo and Eevee turned into a trio. (Idk gengar seemed spooky and I wanted Saburo's second Pokemon to be spooky)

my hypster magazine finally came in the mail lmao and man the special feature talking about how the world is coping without mics is very interesting??? like:

crime as a whole is at an all time high

within ikebukuro, the police are doing fck all about it so the bb have volunteered their services to making the civilians feel safe

ichiro’s been a mediator within more casual disputes, expressing his desire to talk things thru if possible, jiro’s got his whole high school as a neighbourhood watch and saburo’s set up a huge surveillance system to keep watch

in yokohama, the sea port has been particularly targeted and the report says the police and yakuza have teamed up to protect the flow of commerce. katengumi has stepped up to protect the territory and rio is keeping watch via satellite images and drones

in shibuya, dice complains of disruptions in gambling dens and the lack of real gambling has dulled his senses lol. he’s trying to compensate by making his own gambling game lol and he hasn’t been able to pay his phone bill due to lack of funds so he hasn’t been able to talk to ramuda or gentaro

curiously, neither of those two were mentioned in the article, save for dice using the section to try to reach out to them

in shinjuku, the day is desolate and the night scene is busier than ever. doppo’s company has been particularly hit by logistics nightmares as they’re haemorrhaging money due to lost medical equipment. (doppo’s boss has been accusing him of stealing funds and doppo claps back asking what exactly has he been managing currently lol)

shinjuku central hospital has been at full capacity with patients due to the inability to fend off armed criminals. fragrance has seen a significant uptick in patrons

in osaka, businesses have taken a sharp turn towards maliciousness, with scams at an all time high. sasara and rosho advise not to go out at night alone, and rosho, as a teacher, further explains that adults have a duty to protect minors, especially as a person who has been affected by scams in the past. neither sasara nor rosho have heard from rei in a long while, stating dh is on hiatus because of it

in nagoya, petty crimes are up because there seems to be a restlessness amongst them without the mics giving the populace the power to stand out. hitoya himself watched a dude climb up nagoya castle literally for the memes. the court of law has been barren as of late so nobody is being tried for crimes but he believes justice will prevail in due time

kuukou and jyushi have taken up patrolling nagoya in order to persuade others into not doing crimes and all three of them still practice rap battling together
