KANO - Your computer made by yourself
You build your computer and you set it up... weird but why not?, even a 7 year old kid can do it. That is the history behind KANO " is a computer you build and code yourself – a kit to plug, play, and create with technology, not just consume it". It's like the Lego of our times and although was designed for 6-14 year old there is no age limit to have one.

WALT DISNEY MAGICBAND - MAGIC EXPERIENCES
I'm not a Walt Disney's big fan, but I recognize that in terms of designing experiences they are awesome. Holiday-planning system has always been a pain for parents - or at least for mine - and customer interaction a huge challenge for business. MagicBand tackles both through a bracelet that allows you make everything - payments, unlock your hotel room, enter parks and so on - and for Mickey Mouse knowing who you are, hello Antonia!.
Hola Antonia!.

UNNUMBERED SPARK - An Interactive Sculpture
Thanks to Sadeem I got to this amazing sculpture which combine in a perfect balance; art, design, technology and people. Unnumbered Spark is a monumental artistic contribution in the sky made by artists Janet Echelman and Aaron Koblin. It seems a big Jellyfish projecting the interaction of the people who through their smartphone communicate with it.
The sculpture spanned 745 feet between buildings in downtown Vancouver, Canada from March 15-22, 2014 (map)

BREWBOT - BEER YOURSELF
For many beer lovers this product could be awesome... or maybe not, like my friend Sebastian who still prefers his bathtub to make it. In any case these guys from Northern Ireland have designed and developed a personal brewery that oversees in real-time the brewing process. Through a minimal design and smarter system BREWBOT gives you control over timing and temperature in order to get the desired fermentation for your personal beer.

inFORM "COMPUTING IS TACTILE" - INNOVATION BY DESING
A lovely trait of design is that allows you to imagine and project amazing things that change the world, it lets us redesign paradigms and create new ones. There is no boundaries for ideas, genders and ages.
This claim is quite clear for the MIT's research group - Daniel Leithinger*, Sean Follmer*, Alex Olwal, Akimitsu Hogge and Hiroshi Ishii -, inFORM who made up a "Dynamic Shape Display that can render 3D content physically, so users can interact with digital information in a tangible way".

ESTIMOTE - MAKES US SMARTER
This is what I want to do, this is what I mean when design, technology and people become one piece of bits and atoms, this is being digital.
ESTIMOTE deploys a clean design and smart technology bringing contextual-value for people and business. This nearable is more than a smart object, it makes us smarter. Estimote Beacons and Stickers are connected with us through a small "wireless sensor that broadcast tiny radio signals which your smartphone can receive and interpret, unlocking micro-location and contextual awareness". Check out and enjoy.

LOCKITRON - Unluck your door without the key
Unlock your door without the key. This is the gap that Lockitron is trying to tackle through a straightforward communication between bits and atoms. Basically it replaces your key with your smartphone, so you are able to close and open your door using just your smartphone wherever you are. Checkout the Lockitron's features in the video below.
Abrir tu puerta sin llaves. Este es el gap que Lockitron esta tratando de enfrentar a través de una comunicación directa entre bits y atoms. I guess this movie - Her - is the closest approach of what means being digital, a sincere and nice view of the future, and also a singular expression of how bits and atoms interact through AI and IoT.

BEING DIGITAL
Today the term “DIGITAL" has been used by the industry and the market to such a degree that has become more than just a concept or a trendy word, it has turned into a state that defines citizens and businesses.
I used to work for a Telecommunication company which like many pursues turn into a digital company and where each manager has the quest of encouraging to the workers to become digital professionals (to be more digital). At the time that I was there this challenge always appealed confusing and stressful for many so a simple and fair question comes up, What does it really mean being digital?.
Paradoxically this query has its first explanation 18 year ago. In 1996, Nicholas Negroponte - founder of MIT’s Media Lab - in his book “Being Digital” explains what means being digital and make accurate predictions of what we are living nowadays. Although it’s from 1996, I strongly recommend it. Here I leave you some Negroponte’s predictions for starting to figure out what means being digital.
Beyond demographic (From demographic to personalized information): The classic demographic information gave way to the personalized information which defines the services, products or information that I would like to receive. This capability has allows to people to customize their needs and business creates new market based on individual information. Machines in a short term will understand traits and interests of people like other human being do.
Places without space (From Physical to Matrix): Everyday we are more independents of physical places. You may work while you’re enjoying at the coast, there is no need to work at the office. Your address has taken a new meaning, people don’t need all your physical addresses to get you, it has been reduced to your email address or social network account.
Asynchronous Evolution (From Letter Writing to Email): The asynchronous communication has been there for many years through the classic letter writing. However, the E-mail have evolved the model allowing to manage the time as you want.
On-demand (From Blockbuster to NETFLIX): This successful prediction has become into a lucrative business model which are transversal to many industries such as entertainment, software, telecommunication and so on. Pay for what you really want to use or watch, and sometime is free.
Work any time (Work on Sunday and get late on Monday): People are willing to work at home on Sunday in order to work lesser next monday or maybe get later to the job next day. Digital features have allowed us to get flexible jobs.
You may explore more deeper and check these other predictions that we will see in future posts.
Play to learn.
Atoms that have bits.
Bits and garments (Wearables).
Bits and Cities (Smart Cities),
Good morning coffee machine (Internet of things).
Intelligence Cards (Self-driving - Google).
