So when I was getting dressed today, I very quickly put on a lab coat and some cat ears, not even trying to have something coherent, just wanting to have some kind of costume, and then I used some eyeliner to draw some whiskers on my face, so, yeah, that's my costume, cat in a lab coat, does it make sense? no. who cares. Still wearing the same skirt and striped knee-high socks from yesterday, but that's just my work clothes.
But then when I got to my office in the physics department, one of my colleagues was immediately like, "Oh! Schrödinger's catgirl!"

"childlike sense of wonder" this and that. Personally, I'm cultivating my elderly sense of wonder. Hence my excitement over a perfectly ordinary bird in my backyard or an above-average-sized vegetable.

Some computer related jobs will periodically send you emails posing as phishing scams and if you open it you automatically have to take a web safety training seminar and I just think they should do that for tumblr except with reading comprehension

Just to be clear, Kamala conceded with grace and dignity but it is still well within everyone’s right to demand an investigation and even a recount with due cause despite a winner being declared. U.S.Americans have the right to demand free and fair elections (we don’t have a right to, say, start an insurrection like certain people did after the 2020 election).
Many, including major swing states, (Nevada, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and more) have already admitted to data and ballots not being recognized or lost and are recounting or calling for a recount. It usually takes days to count and record votes, a day after a bunch of election tampering is not enough.
If you used a mail-in ballot and haven’t yet, check if it was actually counted and “recognized.” A lot of mail-in voters from swing states found out that their ballots were uncounted today.

Kids and teens should know this too though. I was in third grade in 2004 and I at least knew who the democratic and republican candidates were. Not just because my parents talked about the election with me, but it was part of the curriculum in school. (They actually held a mock election where you could “vote” for Bush or Kerry. I don’t think a mock election for kids would be a good idea in 2024, but kids should at least learn who the candidates are.

U.S. conservatives always talk about creating jobs but get SO MAD whenever anyone mentions banning prison labor like imagine the insane ammout of jobs that would be created literally overnight if companies in your country had to actually employ people instead of using slave labor from people that got caught with weed 10 years ago.

Massachusetts also passed a ballot measure to allow Uber and Lyft drivers to unionize
Everything feels awful right now but it isn't really. We still don't officially have a winner, but regardless of how the presidential election ends up, I wanted to take a minute and find what lights I can in the 3 a.m. darkness. Here's what I know:
* Kentucky overwhelmingly rejected an attempt to undermine the public education system by offering private school vouchers:
* Delaware has elected a transgender woman to the House of Representatives, the first out trans person of any gender ever elected to congress:
* For the first time in history, two Black women will be serving in the senate at the same time, and they are only the fourth and fifth Black women ever elected to the senate:
* New York State has passed a constitutional amendment enshrining the rights of pregnant people (including the right to an abortion), LGBTQIA+ people, the disabled, immigrants regardless of legal status, and other at-risk groups:
* Democrat Josh Stein has beaten self-avowed Nazi Mark Robinson to become governor of North Carolina:
That's everything I know off the top of my head. It's not many bright spots, but it's not zero. I'm going to try to find more and I'll add them to the post. It's the only thing I can think of to do that isn't sobbing and throwing up or looking up Canadian immigration rules.
If you know more good news, I encourage you to add it in reblogs.

If any of the following apply to you, apply for a passport card for yourself and your family right now:
not either white or Black
a naturalized US citizen
Spanish surname
any non-European surname
A passport card is proof of citizenship you can keep in your wallet and use as your primary ID, readily intelligible to bureaucracy, creates a trail of documentation and excuses for government officials to help you. Inshallah you don't need it but if it goes really bad here it may save your butt.
Do it right now through the fillable forms on the State Department website.
