⁃    Fact 1, Vinyl Records: I learned that two records, the Voyager Gold Records were brought aboard the Voyager I and Voyager II spacecraft that were launched into space in 1977. The records contain a diverse set of music for any aliens that may find the records. Some music they have includes Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, Johnny B Goode, and Chuck.     ⁃    Fact 2, 8 Ball Pool: I learned that pool table is green because it originated from a lawn game that is similar to croquet. I also learned that the term “pool” was originally a gambling term, like when people do football pools for the Super Bowl. the reason it was a gambling term was because pool tables because those betting on races would use the pool tables to entertain themselves in between races.     ⁃    Fact 5, Martini: A cool fact I learned about martinis is that a pub in Europe,  Daffys, created a $50,000 martini.     ⁃    Fact 6, Lollipops: Something I learned about lollipops is that the Dum Dums mystery flavor is actually used to save on food waste. Furthermore, that the flavors are mixed, thus making us confused all of these years on the mystery flavors! When a batch of one flavor is running out, they begin a new one in the same machine to not waste product, making mixed flavors like Blueberry-Watermelon.     ⁃    Fact 7, Lighters: A fact I learned about lighters is that they were actually invented before matches. The first lighter was invented in 1823, while matches were invented in 1826. Ironically, matches were invented to make it easier and more convenient then carrying around the bulky, dangerous lighter that was around at the time. The origin story of this I learned about was that a blacksmith tricked the devil by installing a horseshoe that brought him a lot of pain so he would make a deal to stay away from houses with a horseshoe nailed on it. For my collage this week I chose to use Kris Jenner as the individual with an opulent lifestyle. Kris Jenner is one of the first people I think about when I think of a boujee or rich lifestyle. She enjoys diamonds, birkin bags and dirty martinis. She is a girl boss who has transformed her family into some of the richest and most famous people in the world.

For the attendance prompt I chose Kelly Rutherford. I chose her because she is always posing on her instagram in luxurious clothing in extravagant settings such as mansions and fashion shows. Kelly Rutherford plays Lily Van Der Woodsen in one of my favorite shows, Gossip Girl, this fascinates me because in the show she also lives an extravagant, expensive lifestyle as she does in real life.

For activity 2 I did this assignment by myself. I went on the trail and found materials to make Stonehenge using acorns and rocks that I found!

For activity 3 I decided to do a fall painting wine night with my roommates. We had so much fun with this activity!

For activity one I decided to paint my bestfriend and roommate Emma with water color. I love Emma because she is beautiful, caring, trustworthy and intelligent. I learned that her birthmark is the right half of her forehead and it has no freckles while the rest of her face does. I also learned that she has blonde eyelashes and that she her favorite color is green.

I decided to reblog this artwork from Ally for this weeks assignment because it really stood out to me now and when it was originally posted. Looking at your other artwork, you are very talented all around! I feel that your transition from using more colored pencils/crayons to watercolor/watercolor markers has allowed you to blend colors more seamlessly in your artwork. I also think that in this piece the collage pieces blend so well with the artwork you drew! I also feel that your drawing skills have improved (even more than they already were!), skulls are very hard to draw and I could see someone wanted to get this one tattooed or something!

Death assignment:

For this week I decided to draw a skull as a flower vase. I sketched the skull out and traced it with a water brush marker, then I used water colors to fill out the background. I looked through a bunch of magazines to create this assortment of flowers and I think they came together well! I layered the flowers by placing the larger ones down first, and I tried to throw in other smaller flowers wherever I saw fit.

For this weeks assignment I decided to use the Beatles as the faces for my animal hybrids, and choose animals that I thought reminded me of them. I used different cutouts of Beatles memorabilia and put them in their environment.

This week I decided to transform my skull into a butterfly. I chose a butterfly to contrast the liveliness of the butterflies and flowers with lifelessness of the skull. I chose to add vibrant flowers to add more color and life to the painting. I used watercolor for this assignment because I felt that it was easiest to blend and I have enjoyed using it this semester.

Spooky Vibes on Campus

For this week’s assignment, I based the imagery in my artwork on the astrological meaning of my birthday, April 8, which makes my zodiac sign an Aries. For the background, I decided to do the planet Mars because it is the ruling planet of Aries. Furthermore, I decided to incorporate fire because Aries is a fire sign. I then chose to include the ram because it is the symbol of the zodiac sign Aries. I also included the Aries constellation.

The collage technique I chose to incorporate was cutting out images/colors I painted on another sheet of paper, and using those in my collage, she shows this technique in the “finishing and incorporating drawing” portion of the video. I did this with the Aries symbol of the ram and the fire, where I painted them beforehand and then cut them out and used them in my collage.

For this weeks assignment I was inspired by Karena and Ally’s artwork. In Karena’s piece she used watercolor so I decided to use that as well. It was my first time working with it and I really enjoyed it! In Ally’s artwork she used an array of vibrant colors which I was intrigued by. For example I was inspired by how she painted the trees different vibrant colors as well as the sunset.

For this week’s assignment emphasized contemporary color combinations in my artwork. I used an orange and blue contrast in the sky and the water. I also incorporated red and green in the grass, trees, sky and photos I collaged.

For this weeks attendance prompt I decided to use one of Zendaya's looks. Here, she is wearing a red and green gown for the NAACP awards, which are complementary colors. The contrast of these warm and cool toned colors make each color stand out which was most likely an intentional choice by the designer of the gown.

For my landscape, I looked up inspiration on TikTok on beginner friendly oil pastel techniques. I found this video showing how to blend the oil pastels and create a nice landscape. After using the oil pastel technique, I used color pencils and markers to enhance parts of the landscape such as the trees. For the magazine portion, I used an old 90s music book to collage over the background I had just created. Overall I really enjoyed this assignment!

Hi everyone! I am Athena and I am a senior here at Saint Bonaventure. I am from Buffalo, NY and I am majoring in psychology. In my free time I like to read, listen to music, and spend time with my friends and family. I also have three dogs! I have not taken an art class here yet but I am super excited to!
