Why Internet Jerks Aren’t Going to Win, And You Can Help
Depression Quest designer Zoe Quinn joined me on stage at PAX East 2014 to talk about the Internet, and how we can make things just a tiny bit better. Here’s the full video from that panel, and if you want to listen to an audio version, that’s available here. As someone that struggles with attending PAX, given its history, I try my damndest to do good while I’m there. This panel is part of that.

((Ok, I changed around the sidebar a bit. The button that was "About Flagg" is now "Flagg's Bio". I added two more buttons for backstory related posts and posts about Flagg. The latter category includes the former.))

please dont decide to switch to the green or shimmering look for your armor that way you can keep green and lucsent nargacugas safe. :3
Don't worry, I won't. This armor is made from only one Nargacuga, and he made me promise that I would only use parts of his body this armor, and that I wouldn't use any other armor. I haven't broken that promise yet, nor do I intend to.

You know, for someone who wears monster skins, you at least know that black is the color to go for. Too bad you seem so keen on my species.
It's also practical. I can avoid fights if I'm not seen. Aside from that, it's lightweight and comfortable. And if you're concerned about me attacking you, don't be. This armor's over twenty years old, and there's quite the story behind it. Just know that I have no interest in harming you, or want any part of your body.

((✧ - A mental or emotional scar
Flagg has massive issues truly trusting people when he's in the field. He will readily trust people in town, but it vanishes on a hunt unless he has no doubt about the other person. At first he had no problem with hunting with people he didn't know well, but he's come to understand that he's a poor judge of character. Because of it, he's been figuratively and literally backstabbed too many times to not be a bit paranoid. He also refuses to admit this.))

Flagg had just placed his order when he saw a young woman approach him. When she finished introducing herself, he paused a moment before responding. "Avani... No, we haven't met. Call me Flagg. So, what do you want? I would've assumed you wanted tips on how to use those blades, but you don't look like you need 'em." He then gestured to the seat across the table. "And please sit down, get some food if you're hungry."
~A Tale of Two Dual Blades~
The dark-skinned huntress had decided to pay a visit to Tanzia, mainly in search of a hunting job. However, as she looked around the open-aired tavern, she spotted a man in Nargacuga armor, which she herself wore a variation of. And he too seemed to be a Dual Blader by coincidence. “Hmm…greetings. I don’t believe I’ve seen you around before. My name’s Avani. Nice to meet you, fellow hunter.”

Flagg sat on the ice, his heart pounding as he tried to catch his breath. "Yeah, I'm fine. A bit bruised from hitting the edge of the gap, but nothing worse than that. Thank you." He started laughing to himself before he continued. "I've been in your jaws three times already. First time you wanted to break bone, second time you could have killed me, and the third saved my life. There's a joke about mixed signals for you."
He stood up, brushed the snow off his greaves, and kept walking. "I agree, I probably shouldn't be walking, but we'll discuss that when we're in the alcove." The short bit of path was almost all rock, with no treacherous points. Once there, Flagg pulled out four large steaks and a bag of jerky. He gave three steaks and a small amount of the jerky to the Alpha, sat down a short distance away, and started eating.
Between ripping bites off the rest of the jerky he continued. "So, now you keep your end of the deal. Let the pack know what's going on while we wait for those cuts to heal. So, do you have a suggestion as to getting me down and back safely? I have an idea, but would rather you speak first." He then resumed eating.
He turned around and growled, making his way over to Flagg and quickly craning his neck down and opening his jaws. Quickly, as the ice began to break where Flagg had managed to catch hold, he grabbed the hunter between his teeth remarkably gently, lifted him up and carried him a safe distance away.
Once they were on a wider section of the path, he set him down on his feet and looked him over, checking for damage. "Are you alright?" he asked after several moments, turning his head to look him directly in the eye. "Perhaps walking for you is not the wisest idea..." he sighed and shook his head, looking around.

This is actually a brilliant writing reference for those writers whose stories involve fighting with bladed weapons. It details killing blows, both through thrusting and through cutting. It basically operates on the premise of, “Hollywood is wrong, here’s how it really…

I think your soul would be a scimitar.
"Ah. Better. A practical blade. Curved, to follow the natural swing of the arm when cutting. Wider at the end, puts the ideal point of impact further away, where the blade moves faster. Well thought out design, intimidating, and easy to handle. I like it. Can't stab very well though. But all weapons have faults. That one is relatively minor."

Flagg glared. "Really? I think you aren't thinking of the right type of scythe. I assume you mean one shaped like the farmer's tool, or Death's Scythe. That is not a practical weapon. A war scythe, one where the blade is a continuation of the shaft, like a glaive, is.
"Now, you might want to know why a normal scythe isn't practical. It's a long weapon. Good. The blunt side faces your foe when use use that reach best, for thrusts. Bad. You can't stab effectively, since you need to swing the blade to stab, and would need to aim the point at your foe's side. Difficult to do. And if you do hit, you need to swing the blade out of your foe. Harder than simply yanking it out. And to slice, you need to swing the blade behind your foe, negating your reach advantage, and then pull, while they're probably moving towards you. Reduced impact, less force on the blade, and probably bringing your foe even closer, where you can't effectively hit with the blade.
"By turning the blade so the point is roughly in line with the shaft improves the length of the scythe, let's you stab effectively, with your entire weight behind the strike, and makes slicing motions a simple swing instead of a weaker swing and pull. The only way in which a normal scythe is superior is for intimidation, and that only applies to those who don't know the faults. Respond!
"And Zin, stay out of this. Too late to stop it now."
((Soul for a weapon? Let's turn Flagg into a badass scythe.))
"A scythe? Really? You say badass, I say excessively dramatic and fairly impractical. I appreciate the sentiment, not the implication.
"Now, if you had said that about thirty years ago, I wouldn’t have had any complaints."
