The concept of Yin and yang originated with philosophers in the Chinese Han Dynasty that ruled from 207BC until 9AD.

Han philosophers asserted that the Universe is ruled by one principle which they called ‘Tao’.  That principle is divided into two equal opposites in the Universe belong to one of those two principles.

Yin encompasses such elements as femaleness, darkness, the Moon, submission, the Earth, cold etc.

Yang encompasses maleness, light, the Sun, dominance, heaven, heat etc.
