Jack Skellington did nothing wrong. I too would want to make an entire town participate in my new special interest. He just had a lot of autism swag

Thought you might find this interesting but I live in a small town in Hoenn and recently the council voted to put up a statue to our most famous pokemon. Back in the day before pokeballs were widespread but after we started trusting pokemon more this old man in town befriended an absol, who would wait by the old carriage stop until his friend came by, hop on with him, and go into town for mochi with the old man, before being dropped off and returning to the woods. No pokeball, just hanging out. Anyway, the old man passed away and the absol kept showing up. For 50 years. Even after they replaced the carriages with a tram. Apparently the drivers felt bad for it and let it hop on, and so for 50 years it would wander the same route it did with its human friend, get back on the tram, and return to the woods, until it finally stopped showing up.
oh, what a sweet story! sometimes it's crazy to think how modern of an invention the pokeball as we know it is. even after pokeballs were invented, they were such specialty items that required a trained craftsman to make that most people who kept a pokemon didn't use them. the idea that you can bond with a wild pokemon really started largely in the past 50 years!
i'm not surprised that this absol kept going back even after his human companion died. absol are pokemon of routine, almost to a fault, which is part of why they're so good at detecting the irregularities that precede disasters. i think it's wonderful that your town welcomed this absol instead of treating it like a danger. given how much time has passed, i wouldn't be surprised if the absol eventually passed away of old age. but that's a really incredible story!

Man, that’s just really concerning, both for his safety and his ‘mon(s). Did anyone mention to him that while he may be able to handle himself, his Pokémon might end up getting really hurt? Maybe show or tell him some examples of trainers who “won” a battle or “survived” a really dangerous place, but whose ‘mons ended up either permanently injured or didn’t make it? I know it sounds harsh but sometimes people that age don’t realize that its not just them they are risking, and if they really care about their Pokémon they’ll think twice.
The greatest problem with my current clinic being in a Pokémon Center is that I see a great many more young Trainers passing through, and I do not have the authority nor ability to do anything about some of them.
A young man- Scarcely older than a Youngster- just acquired his license and his first Pokémon, and came in to decide his first destination. He clearly had a chip on his shoulder and something to prove. He loudly declared he didn't want to go anywhere if it wasn't dangerous, as he could handle himself.
He stormed out after we would not simply point him to the most dangerous places around, but we could not do more than let him go.
It is frustrating.

This is the side of competitive that I hate. A lot of the trainers I’ve interacted with are good at vetting their breeders, and there have been a lot of advancements in training that allow you to not have to breed specific mons (nature mints come to mind for me), but there are still so many people who are scummy. Sadly some circuits still incentivize that kind of behavior, which I do my best to avoid.
So I know that 99.9/100 Pokemon being used in competitive tournaments were bred specifically for competition, but what do these breeders/breeding facilities do with the Pokemon they breed that don't make the cut?
it really depends. some of these pokemon can be adopted out as pets or may succeed in another job, such as contests or practical work. good breeders will always make sure they can home all of a clutch, even if that means taking the pokemon in themself.
unfortunately, though, less reputable facilities or backyard breeders exist (you would not believe how many people think their pet pokemon totally has competitive potential and will throw champion babies). these pokemon often get abandoned, released, or dropped at shelters. they can be really hard to home. many of these pokemon have been bred for reactivity in the hopes that it'll make them good battling candidates, but in reality it just makes them extremely hard to handle. we try to give these pokemon to fosters who were previously battling trainers to see if they can work some training magic, but the sad truth is we do sometimes have to euthanize them. it's just not safe to adopt out something like a reactive skarmory.

How would Scarfy react to Ogerpon, not only given her history of being unjustly shunned by humans, but also the fact that she has a canon confirmed kill count in the game lore? Admiration? Understanding? Cold dismissal since she still has a soft spot for humans after everything that happened?

So I recently emergency adopted a jolteon from a friend of a friend of a friend. tl;dr parents bought a baby eevee for their kid hoping for a friendship evo, but didn’t think to put away their decorative evolution stones - I have a moderately sized mareep farm & specialize in mammalian electric types, so the folks between us knew my home was more than equipped to take in the little guy.
Thing is: this little bastard (affectionate) is SO active at night. To the point that my other indoor pokemon have been seeking refuge in my loft at night to avoid his chaotic zoomies. And it’s not like he’s sedentary during the day - he loves chasing mareep and bothering my luxray & boltund.
Is 2am typically the jolteon witching hour? I’ve pokesat other eeveelutions before & they’ve usually been more or less chill at night
it sounds like there's two things going on here!
the first is that he could probably use some mental enrichment before bed, as well as some crate or ball training. if he can learn that "at this time, i go to this specific space and go to sleep," he'll eventually get into the routine of resting when you do. giving him something to occupy his brain in the evening will also help him switch over from running around time to relaxing time! jolteon are often described as "moody" when a lot of the time their behavioral problems result from boredom. puzzle feeders, dig boxes, and toys that help dispell excess electricity are all going to help him work his brain.
the other issue is actually that he's spending so much time out with the mareep! mareep, as you know, build up tons and tons of static electricity in their wool and the air around them- and jolteon are basically walking batteries. so when he's running around with the flock, instead of discharging some of that electricity, he's actually building more and more up, which is probably making him antsy at night. he can still hang out with his buddies, but make sure he gets some time to run around in an area that isn't full of other electric types too!

I got my Lucario as a Riolu from a shelter, which is obviously different, but he’s been my companion for going on 10 years now, so I do have a lot of experience with Lucarios in general and have helped with a few other lucarios surrendered to the shelter I work with over the years.
As Charlie said, it’s hard for them to be without their bonded person, but interestingly I’ve found that beyond being able to recover better because of their Aura abilities, they also much more likely to form a new bond with a new trainer than other friendship evos. Roselia, for example, are very unlikely to form a close bond with a second trainer. It’s not impossible, but I’ve only seen it maybe once or twice, where as every Lucario I’ve worked with has found a new human they decide is Their Trainer after some amount of time.
And yes, they do love to battle and need a lot of time and energy. Also they are incredibly intelligent and will cause a lot of mischief if they get bored or under stimulated.
Do you have any experience with shelter lucarios
I have one who I knew as a riolu and he’s staying with me until one of us crokes
But I am morbidly curious about Lucario’s that end up at the shelter
i do, actually! we've had a couple over the years, including a sweet guy last year who wanted to hold hands all the time. they struggle with adjusting to not having their bonded person, as friendship evolutions typically do. however, they tend to adjust faster thanks to their aura-reading abilities. they can sense our intentions to help and care for them, so they tend to open up faster!
the main difficulty with them is more in their activity level, as they need a lot of time and space to run around, and they really prefer being able to battle regularly. we try to adopt them out fast, but we also reach out to sanctuaries to see if any of them can take a lucario in, since smaller sanctuaries generally have more time to provide that kind of care.

Oh dear I’ve gotten a good few…. Probably the time I got a concussion because it was dark and I couldn’t see Sam asleep on the floor and tripped right over him headfirst into a doorknob.
However if we are talking directly resulting from the actions of a ‘mon and not from circumstance, probably the time a Zigzagoon bit my finger so bad I needed stitches. I was young and volunteering with a rehab at the time, and a series of miscommunications led to me being told to move a patient I was not supposed to be handling. Little guy got scared and sunk his teeth right in. Luckily he let go pretty quick, so the damage wasn’t as bad as it could have been but I still have the scars on my first knuckle.
