Do you ever think about how these were the last words between Obi-Wan and Anakin for years and years? That, when everything fell apart and they could no longer go back, when everything was in ashes for them here, their final words between each other for years and years were: Anakin:  “I HATE YOU!” Obi-Wan:  “I loved you!” That’s what both of them had to live with at the end of all of this, that when rage and pain and hate are hurled at him, Obi-Wan still responds with sorrow and love, that his goodbye is one that comes from how much he loved Anakin. We know it’s not the final end of their story, they will meet again one day, their relationship isn’t done yet, but this is a true turning point, an event horizon that has been crossed, and it ends with “I hate you!” and “I loved you!” THAT IS THE ESSENSE OF OBI-WAN’S CHARACTER. EVEN AFTER ANAKIN’S HORRIFIC ACTS TO EVERYONE AROUND HIM, OBI-WAN’S FINAL WORDS WERE STILL ONES OF LOVE. EVEN AFTER THE MURDER OF HIS ENTIRE FAMILY, EVEN AFTER THE MURDER OF THE JEDI CHILDREN, EVEN AFTER BREAKING EVERY VOW ANAKIN EVER MADE, EVEN AFTER OBI-WAN TRIED TO GET HIM TO COME BACK DURING THAT ENTIRE FIGHT AND ANAKIN REFUSED, THIS IS STILL HOW IT ENDS. ”You were my brother, Anakin.  I loved you!” THIS IS WHO OBI-WAN KENOBI IS.  SOMEONE WHO ALWAYS ENDS WITH LOVE.

Anakin: *texting Padme* I don’t know, I haven’t seen Obi-Wan in a few hours.

Mace: I was talking to you.

Anakin: *lowers his comm* …you’re fucking with me, right?

Mace: I am the master of this order, I would never!

Anakin: Okay. What do you need?

Mace: I require the services of a particularly foul mouthed droid. One with absolutely offensively obscene language.

Anakin: …okay? Do you… want me to build you one???

Mace: …I was thinking R2-D2 could do it?

Anakin: Artoo isn’t foul mouthed! He’s a gentle boy!

Mace: *unimpressed* Your /gentle boy/ called Obi-Wan a ‘walking pile of shit with too much hair and no sense not to be where he isn’t wanted’ in the hallway for accidentally walking in front of him five minutes ago. It made Obi-Wan very sad.

Anakin: …war is stressful on us all, okay. Have him home by night-night time. *gets up to find and comfort his master*
