"Ten minutes into our conversation, I knew I wanted to invest in him. The fact that he was undeterred by my attempts to brush him off impressed me. I became a mentor to him and we swapped notes for more than a year about scaling our ed-tech businesses. Later, we co-founded Andela together. "(Johnson 2015)If he had taken “no” for an answer, his career would be in a very different place. From finding a mentor to finding investors, people will always want to tell emerging entrepreneurs “no.” Without persistence, getting a “yes” is impossible. Rob Law MBE Founder and CEO of Trunki Rob Law saw a similar opportunity when he noticed children travelling with their parents and saw the possibility for a children's suitcase which they could sit on. The idea for Trunki came to Rob when he entered a national luggage design competition in his second year of studying product design at university. This opens in a new window. The Trunki serves as a great tool for children to play with as they travel through an airport. Rob's company, Magmatic, subsequently started trading in 2006 and created the world's first and only ride-on suitcase for globetrotting tots. Six months after launch, he recruited an employee and in the years that followed he grew his business substantially. Rob's entrepreneurial journey has seen him win over 120 awards within the design, trade, consumer and business sectors including reaching 42nd on The Sunday Times Fast Track 100 and winning The National Business Awards SME of the Year.

Bill Gates Co-founder of Microsoft In 1975 Gates, then a sophomore at Harvard University, joined his hometown friend Paul G. Allen to develop software for the first microcomputers. They began by adapting BASIC, a popular programming language used on large computers, for use on microcomputers. Bill Gates took a risk when he dropped out of Harvard to start his own company. He also took a risk when he changed Microsoft's operating system from MS-DOS to Windows. However, his risks were calculated. He had confidence in himself and his product. In March 1986, Gates took Microsoft public with an initial public offering (IPO) of $21 per share, making him an instant millionaire at age 31.
