The last semester has been full of ups and downs, mainly ups though. I started the semester, as I usually do each year, telling myself that I am going to only focus on uni and get the best grades I possibly can. Eventually, after a few weeks, that dream slowly disappeared as it usually does and here I am at the end of the semester, trying to finish all my subjects off and catch up on work from previous weeks that I had put off. (As usual)
In all honesty though I think that I have come along way as a designer, personally. I think this semester has really set in stone what I want to do for the rest of my life. I have spent the last two years at uni, struggling through a course that I couldn't see myself doing long term. I had no motivation to do anything, which lead to poor marks. Where as this semester, although I still struggled to actually do the work when I was meant to, I have developed an overall love for this course. I love that every person in this course has the desire to go a slightly different way than the next person. I love that I am able to put my own personal touch on projects and work collaboratively with other students who only aid to my understanding and development of the course and personal design experience.
This subject in particular has been incredibly beneficial to me in the way that it demonstrates so many various ways of thinking creatively and each week poses a new challenge and learning experience, entirely different from the previous week. I loved how the studios, although they were late on a Friday night, were relaxed and you could just sit there and work together on creative projects with your friends and just generally have a good time in class for once. (Even if you had to wait a few hours until you could crack open that bottle of red at home)
I'm pretty thankful that I finally found a course I love, with people I love and can actually see myself turning this party/roller-coaster ride into a career I love as well.
